Club News

21st August 2022

Club championship finals day turned out to be a sunny but blowy day for our finalists Linda Dyball and Lynne Couper, a great matchplay final with some fantastic golf from both players. With no more than two holes between them on the front 9, lynne was 1 up at the turn. Was lovely to see some of the ladies section turn out to support our finalists and follow the match round the back 9. Both players played the tricky 13th with ease, linda missed a putt for birdie by mere millimeters, lynne hit her putt and sunk it for her birdie taking her back to 2 up. The match concluded on the 16th green with Lynne Couper winning and becoming our ladies club champion for 2022.
Commissions to Linda our runner up for 2022. It was a great game and it was a pleasure to witness our two best players battle it out on our fantastic golf course. A wee shout out to the caddies for doing a great job today too, Jane McDonal for lynne and Tracey McCormack for Linda x

I must say the course was set up brilliantly by our green staff with some great pin positions out there today. And as always our staff in the clubhouse are always a pleasure to see after a long walk especially the bar staff who serve us our drinks and catering staff who feed us.

Thankyou to everyone who came along today to make our centenary year club championship one to remember.

We were delighted to do a small presentation to our ex-Captain, Stan Lindsay on Thursday 23rd September in the main lounge, we had hoped to do this months ago but due to Covid restrictions this was delayed.

Stan was joined by his sweep and a few Council members/staff and Barry Hynd, Club Captain presentated Stan with his gift and card and thanked him for all his hardwork and dedication over the 7 years he was Club Captain.

Winter Quaich.

Like last year, the Winter Quaich was much delayed as Covid ravaged the Country once again. Throw in one of the wettest Springs ever and it was no surprise the final took until the middle of May to be played.

Yesterday, 20th May, David Bell and Mike Kidd met up to play. A see-saw game with David being five up at one time before Mike clawing it back to one. With the game being a final this pressure led to, what was admitted, some school boy errors mixed in with good shots. David was victorious and managed to win 3&2. More importantly the game was played in good spirit and the relaxation of Covid levels allowed the participants to reflect on the game over suitable beverages in the Club house afterwards.

Congratulations to David and commiserations to Mike who, like Paul Ennis last year, had to wait an age before losing in the final. Fingers crossed that the 2021/22 Winter Quaich can be completed before March and not May.

World Handicapping System

The handicapping system is changing this year and will take effect from the 2nd of November.
In very simple terms your existing handicap will be reviewed by the system and re-calculated by taking the average of your top 8 scores from the last 20 scores that you have submitted, going back to 2017.
There is a lot more to it than that, but a lot of it will be calculated for you by the system. We plan to send out a specific document next week explaining the changes in more detail and to help answer any concerns that you may have.
There is a lot of information on the Scottish Golf website- SGL ⛳
